The VMware Certified Spring Professional credential, now administered under Broadcom and titled Spring Certified Professional 2024, is earned by passing the Spring Professional Develop exam, code 2V0-72.22. It is aimed at Java developers who build applications with the Spring Framework and Spring Boot and want a vendor issued confirmation of that skill. The exam tests working knowledge of configuration, data access, REST, security, testing and Actuator, not memorized definitions alone.
Spring sits underneath a large share of enterprise Java work, from internal business systems to microservices. This exam exists to give employers a consistent signal that a developer understands how the framework behaves, not just how to copy a working example. Broadcom’s exam guide describes a minimally qualified candidate as someone with both conceptual understanding and programming experience in Spring. That candidate knows the main features of Spring and Spring Boot, including configuration, data access, REST, AOP, auto configuration, Actuator, security and the Spring testing framework.
The official exam guide lists no mandatory prerequisite certification. It recommends that candidates have roughly 6 to 12 months of experience with Spring. Several independent guides also report that you can register through Pearson VUE without completing a paid course. Broadcom and its learning partners do offer official training, such as the Spring Certified Professional learning path, but treat it as optional preparation and confirm current requirements on the official site before you book.
The exam contains 60 items and gives you 130 minutes, a figure that Broadcom says allows adequate time for non native English speakers. Results are reported on a scaled score, and the passing score is 300 on a 100 to 500 scale. Secondary sources commonly translate that to about 76 percent, but the scaled method means you should not treat it as an exact count of correct answers. The exam is proctored through Pearson VUE, and candidates can generally choose between a test centre and online proctoring. Question styles reported by candidates include single answer, multiple selection and scenario based items that show code or configuration and ask what will happen.
The official blueprint is organised into sections, each broken into numbered objectives. Based on the published guide, the main areas are:
Spring Core. The Spring Framework introduction, Java configuration, annotation based configuration and component scanning, bean lifecycle and scopes, properties and profiles, and aspect oriented programming.
Data Management. Spring JDBC and JdbcTemplate, transaction management including propagation and rollback rules, and Spring Data JPA repositories used with Spring Boot.
Spring MVC and REST. Building web applications with Spring Boot, the request processing lifecycle, REST controllers for the common HTTP verbs, and calling REST services.
Testing. Testing Spring applications, including integration tests, and advanced testing with Spring Boot and MockMvc.
Security. Basic security concepts, configuring authentication and authorization with Spring Security, and method level security.
Spring Boot. Core Boot features, properties and auto configuration, and Spring Boot Actuator.
Percentage weightings are published in the official blueprint, but they differ between third party summaries, so read the current figures from Broadcom rather than relying on a copied table. Some third party guides also say the exam is based on Spring Framework 5.3 and Spring Boot 2.x. Verify that against the blueprint before choosing study material, because newer major versions behave differently in places.
Third party sources consistently list the fee as $250 USD, and you pay either by buying a voucher or at checkout when you schedule. Registration runs through your Broadcom account and Pearson VUE, where you select exam 2V0-72.22 and your delivery option. Because portals and pricing change, follow the prompts on the official Broadcom and Pearson VUE pages for the exact steps, any retake rules and identification requirements for online proctoring japanese proficiency test JLPT n3 practice exam
Spring is the dominant application framework in the Java ecosystem, so this credential is relevant mostly to backend developers, Java engineers on enterprise teams, and developers moving into microservice work. Its value is in showing that you understand how Spring wires beans, manages transactions, secures endpoints and exposes operational data through Actuator. It will not replace a portfolio or production experience, but it gives hiring managers a fixed benchmark to compare. The “2024” in the title reflects the exam edition, so check whether a newer edition has been announced before you plan your study.
The most useful preparation is writing small Spring and Spring Boot applications yourself, then checking your understanding with timed questions. Practice tests help you spot weak objectives, such as transaction propagation or security configuration, and get comfortable with the 130 minute pacing. AllExamQuestions.com is preparing free practice tests for this exam, which you can use alongside the official blueprint and Spring documentation once they are available.
