The Italian Proficiency Test Online at Avanzato C1 level is a short language assessment that measures how well a person can use Italian at the advanced stage of the CEFR scale. It is mainly used by employers screening candidates for roles that need strong Italian, such as editors, writers, content creators and customer success managers. This page explains what the test covers, how it is structured and how to prepare.
This is not a university diploma or a government backed language certificate. It is a skills assessment. It checks Italian knowledge at the C1 level of the CEFR framework, and employers use it to find people who can handle demanding professional and social conversations in Italian. The purpose is practical. A recruiter wants quick, comparable evidence of whether an applicant can write clearly, read complex material and follow spoken Italian before moving to interviews Test your knowledge with a free Salesforce certified integration architect practice test.
At C1, a learner is expected to understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and pick up implicit meaning. In everyday terms, that means following arguments that are not spelled out and expressing ideas fluently without hunting for words.
Candidates usually take this test because an employer sends them an invitation, so there is no application process or formal prerequisite to pass first. Language wise, the test assumes you are already comfortable at B2. Italian university course descriptions for C1 make the same assumption: the advanced course is meant for students who have completed an intermediate to advanced B2 course or already know the language to that standard. If you are still working through B1 grammar, this test will likely feel out of reach.
The test is built to be quick. According to the provider’s listing, it takes about 10 minutes, so time management matters more than it would in a long diploma exam. I could not find a published question count or a passing score for the Italian C1 test, so treat both as unconfirmed until you check the provider. The format is delivered online, and employers may combine it with other assessments in the same invitation.
The provider lists four areas. They are basic grammar and vocabulary, composing sentences, reading comprehension and listening comprehension.
Grammar and vocabulary. Expect to be tested on verb moods and tenses such as the congiuntivo and condizionale, pronoun combinations, prepositions and connectors that link longer sentences. At C1, vocabulary should extend beyond daily topics into workplace and abstract language.
Composing sentences. This area looks at whether you can build correct, natural Italian sentences, including word order, agreement and register. Formal and informal phrasing are not interchangeable in Italian business writing.
Reading comprehension. You will work with written passages and need to identify main points, tone and implied meaning. Work related emails, reports and articles are the reference point.
Listening comprehension. This part looks at how comfortably you follow spoken Italian and read between the lines in business related discussions.
There is generally no public sign up for a candidate to book a seat, as there is for an exam like CILS or CELI. Access normally comes through an employer or recruiter who sets up the assessment and sends you a link. If you want to take it independently, or need details on accommodations, retakes or results sharing, contact the provider or the company that invited you, because those rules are set on their side and can change.
The practical value of this test depends on the role. The provider suggests editors, writers, content creators, customer success managers and other staff who need advanced Italian to perform well. A good result gives a recruiter a fast, standardised signal that you can work in Italian, which is useful for applicants without a formal certificate or whose study history is hard to verify.
It does have limits. It will not replace a recognised diploma if you need proof for university admission, a visa, or citizenship, where official certificates such as CILS, CELI or PLIDA are the usual requirement. It also does not measure speaking, so employers hiring for spoken roles often add an interview in Italian.
Because the test is short, familiarity with question styles helps you avoid losing time. Free practice tests on AllExamQuestions.com can help you check your grammar and reading at C1 level, spot weak areas and get used to answering under time pressure. Pair them with Italian input, such as news articles, podcasts and RaiPlay, to build listening stamina.
