In December 2025, Salesforce quietly rewrote the ADM-201 blueprint, and most practice test sites online are still running on the old weightings. Configuration and Setup dropped from 20% to 15%. Object Manager did the same. In their place, Data and Analytics Management jumped to 17%, the single largest domain on the exam, and a brand new Agentforce section worth 8% appeared for the first time. If you studied from a guide written before this refresh that haven't been updated, you're preparing for an exam that no longer exists. This practice test reflects the current blueprint.

A Naming Mix-Up Worth Clearing Up

Here's something that trips people up before they even open a study guide. "Administration Essentials for New Admins" is not the exam. It's the name of the instructor-led Trailhead Academy course, also carrying the ADM201 label, that Salesforce sells as prep training. The actual credential you earn by passing the exam is called the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator, formerly just Salesforce Certified Administrator. The exam code, ADM-201, has stuck around in everyday use even though Salesforce's own materials now lead with the longer title. So when someone says "I'm studying for ADM-201," they usually mean the certification exam, not the paid course, and that's the exam this page is built around.

What This Salesforce ADM-201 Exam Actually Tests

The current blueprint has eight domains instead of the old five or six, and the split tells you where Salesforce wants admins spending their attention in 2026.

Data and Analytics Management (17%) is now the heaviest domain. Expect report types, dashboard components, bucket fields, and increasingly, questions about data quality and duplicate management rather than just "how do you build a dashboard." This is the section where candidates who only clicked through Trailhead modules, without building anything, tend to lose the most points.

Configuration and Setup (15%) and Object Manager and Lightning App Builder (15%) together still make up nearly a third of the exam. This covers company settings, business hours, fiscal year setup, custom objects, field types, page layouts, and record types. It's foundational and it hasn't gone anywhere, it's just no longer the majority of the test the way it was before the refresh.

Automation (15%) means Flow Builder almost exclusively at this point. Workflow Rules and Process Builder are legacy tools Salesforce has been retiring for years, and the exam has followed that shift. If your study materials still spend a lot of time on Process Builder screenshots, they're outdated.

Sales and Marketing Applications (10%) and Service and Support Applications (10%) cover opportunity stages, forecasting, campaigns, case management, and entitlements, essentially the standard CRM functionality most new admins have actually touched in their day jobs.

Productivity and Collaboration (10%) rounds out the "classic" content: Chatter, activities, mobile administration, and collaboration tools.

Agentforce (8%) is the new domain, and it's not asking you to build AI agents from scratch. It tests whether you understand what Agentforce is for, when it's appropriate to deploy an agent versus a traditional automation, how agent permissions and security work, and the basics of maintaining prompts in Agent Builder. Salesforce has been explicit that this is meant to test AI awareness for admins, not deep technical AI knowledge.

Who Actually Takes This Salesforce ADM-201 Exam

The population sitting ADM-201 splits into a few recognizable groups. There are Salesforce end users, sales reps or support agents who've been the unofficial "Salesforce person" on their team and want the credential to formalize what they're already doing informally. There are career changers coming from general IT helpdesk or business analyst backgrounds who picked Salesforce specifically because the barrier to entry is lower than developer-track certifications. And there's a growing group of experienced admins who let a previous certification lapse and are recertifying after a gap, which matters because the content they remember studying is now measurably out of date.

What most of these groups have in common is that they've spent time clicking around inside an actual Salesforce org, whether through a job, a Trailhead Playground, or a Developer Edition account, before attempting this exam. Salesforce's own guidance recommends at least six months of hands-on platform experience, and it shows in how the exam is written: it rewards people who've actually configured a page layout or built a Flow, not just read about one.

Salesforce ADM-201 Exam Format Details That Matter for Practice

The official Salesforce ADM-201 exam is 60 scored multiple-choice and multiple-select questions, plus 5 additional unscored questions mixed in that Salesforce uses to test future exam content. You won't know which 5 are unscored, so there's no way to skip them strategically. You get 105 minutes total, which works out to about 1.75 minutes per question, tight enough that scenario-based questions with two or three sentences of business context before the actual question can eat your time budget if you're not used to reading them quickly.

The passing score sits at 68%, meaning you can miss roughly 19 of the 65 total questions and still pass. The exam costs $200 for a first attempt, and if you don't pass, retakes run $100 and you have to wait at least 24 hours before rebooking. A government-issued ID is required whether you test online or at a testing center, and no reference materials are allowed during the exam itself.

The multiple-select questions, where you're told to "choose two" or "choose three" answers, are worth specific attention when practicing. Salesforce doesn't give partial credit on these. Getting three out of four correct on a "choose all that apply" style question still counts as a miss, which is a different skill than single-answer multiple choice and one candidates consistently underestimate until they hit it on a mock exam.

Common Mistakes Candidates Make on This Salesforce ADM-201 Exam

The single most repeated mistake is studying the wrong weighting. Anyone using materials written before December 15, 2025 is over-preparing for Configuration and Object Manager and under-preparing for Data and Analytics and Agentforce, the two areas that grew. Second is treating this as a memorization exam. ADM-201 questions are heavily scenario-based: "A sales manager needs X, which feature should the admin use?" You can know every field on the Setup menu and still miss these if you haven't practiced matching business requirements to the right tool, particularly distinguishing between similar options like Validation Rules versus Flow versus a simple required field.

Third, and specific to the automation domain, candidates frequently confuse when to use a Record-Triggered Flow versus a Screen Flow versus an approval process, because the exam tests judgment about the right tool for a scenario rather than just the mechanics of building any one of them. Fourth, in the new Agentforce section, some candidates either skip it entirely assuming it's negligible at 8%, or over-invest trying to become AI experts when the actual questions stay at an awareness level about permissions, use cases, and Agent Builder basics.

How to Use This Salesforce ADM-201 Practice Test Effectively

Take a full 65-question mock under the 105-minute time limit before you've finished all your studying, not after, so you get an honest read on where the weak spots are while there's still time to fix them. Then review missed questions by domain rather than one by one; if you're consistently losing points in Data and Analytics Management, that's worth a dedicated study session in an actual org, not just another round of flashcards. Pay particular attention to multiple-select questions in your practice, since they're the format most likely to trip up people who've only trained on single-answer questions. And don't skip practicing the Agentforce questions just because the section is small, since a candidate hovering near the 68% line can't afford to concede an entire domain.

Study Tips Specific to This Salesforce ADM-201 Exam

Set up a free Salesforce Developer Edition org before you start memorizing anything. This exam rewards people who've actually built a custom object, created a Flow, and generated a report from scratch, and no amount of reading replicates that. Prioritize your study time by the actual current weighting: Data and Analytics (17%) first, then Configuration, Object Manager, and Automation (15% each), and treat Agentforce as a 8% you need to earn rather than an afterthought. When you hit Flow Builder content, build at least one Record-Triggered Flow and one Screen Flow yourself instead of only watching a demo, since the exam's scenario questions test whether you understand what each Flow type is actually for. Finally, because Salesforce updates this exam roughly in line with its release cycle, check the exam date printed on your registration confirmation against the "last updated" date on whatever guide or dump site you're using. If they don't roughly line up, the content may already be stale.
