CompTIA Cloud+

CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-004) is an intermediate certification for IT professionals who deploy, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure. It is not tied to one vendor, so the skills apply whether your employer runs workloads on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, a private cloud, or a mix. The exam suits systems administrators, cloud engineers, and infrastructure staff who already work with servers, networks, and virtualization and want proof they can run those services in cloud environments.

What the exam validates

CompTIA describes Cloud+ as validating the skills needed to deploy and automate secure cloud environments that support the high availability of business systems and data. The emphasis is operational. Instead of asking which product feature belongs to which vendor, the exam asks how you would design, provision, secure, monitor, and repair cloud services in  situations.

CV0-004 is the current version (V4), launched on September 24, 2024. It replaced CV0-003 and organizes its content into six domains, including a dedicated DevOps Fundamentals domain that reflects how cloud teams now work with automation and pipelines.

Eligibility and recommended experience

There are no mandatory prerequisites. Anyone can register and sit the exam. CompTIA does recommend 2 to 3 years of practical experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer. Familiarity with networking and server administration helps, since many questions assume you already understand subnets, storage types, virtual machines, and access control. If you are newer to IT, expect to spend extra time on labs before attempting this exam.

Exam structure and format

The test runs 90 minutes and contains a maximum of 90 questions. Most are multiple choice, but you will also meet performance based questions, which present a simulated task or scenario and ask you to complete or diagnose something instead of picking a letter. These take longer than standard items, so many candidates flag them and return after the quicker questions. Scoring is scaled from 100 to 900, and a score of 750 is required to pass. Question counts can vary slightly between sessions, so treat the figure as a ceiling instead of a fixed number.

Domain breakdown

CompTIA publishes the following weightings for CV0-004:

• Cloud Architecture (23%): public, private, hybrid, and multi cloud models, virtualization, cloud networking such as VPNs and virtual networks, containerization, and database fundamentals.

• Security (19%): vulnerability management, security controls, identity and access, and compliance considerations.

• Deployment (19%): provisioning resources, deploying solutions, and moving workloads into cloud environments.

• Operations (17%): monitoring, backup and recovery, capacity management, and keeping services available.

• DevOps Fundamentals (10%): automation concepts, infrastructure as code, and the pipelines that support continuous delivery.

• Troubleshooting (12%): diagnosing connectivity problems, misconfigurations, and performance or availability issues.

Architecture, security, and deployment together make up 61% of the exam, so they deserve the most study time. Troubleshooting is smaller by weight, but its scenarios draw on every other domain, which is why many candidates find it harder than the percentage suggests.

Registration process

CompTIA exams are scheduled through its candidate process and delivered by Pearson VUE, either at a testing center or online with remote proctoring, depending on availability in your region. You generally create an account, choose the exam, select a delivery option, and pay for a voucher or exam fee. Career value

Cloud+ is aimed at hands on infrastructure roles. Job titles that commonly line up with it include cloud systems administrator, cloud engineer, cloud support engineer, and infrastructure engineer. Its main strength is breadth. A candidate who holds a vendor specific credential knows one platform deeply, while Cloud+ shows you can reason about shared concepts such as identity, networking, backup, and automation across several platforms. That makes it a practical fit for organizations running hybrid or multi cloud environments, and a sensible base before specializing in a single provider. It sits within CompTIA’s infrastructure track, alongside credentials such as Network+ and Server+.
