“"The practice exams helped me strengthen my Photoshop knowledge and feel more confident before the certification exam."”

The Adobe Certified Professional in Visual Design Using Adobe Photoshop exam is an entry level credential for people who edit images, build layouts and prepare graphics in Photoshop. Adobe publishes the objectives, and Certiport, a Pearson VUE business, develops and delivers the test. It suits students, early career designers, marketers and freelancers who want proof of practical skill. Candidates answer selected response questions and then complete live tasks inside the Photoshop application.
Adobe Certified Professional is Adobe’s program for validating proficiency in Creative Cloud applications, and each certification is tied to a single app. Before June 2021 the program was called Adobe Certified Associate. Older certifications earned through simulation based exams keep the Associate name. Earning the Professional title requires passing a live in the app exam.
The Photoshop exam measures core competencies such as image editing, compositing, layer management and typography. It also tests whether you can follow project requirements, apply design principles and understand digital publishing practices. The focus is on doing the work in Photoshop, not on reciting menu names.
There are no formal prerequisites, and no prior certification is needed. Adobe suggests roughly 150 hours of hands on instruction and practice before you attempt the exam. Treat that as a planning guide, not a rule. A designer who uses Photoshop daily may need far less, while a newcomer may need more.
The exam runs for 50 minutes and has two parts. The first contains selected response items. The second contains live tasks that you complete directly in Photoshop, so you must be comfortable with the interface under time pressure.
Adobe’s own pages are not consistent on the question count. One states 30 questions, while another gives a range of 30 to 45. Confirm the current figure on Certiport when you schedule. The passing score is 700 out of 1,000.
The exam is tied to a specific Photoshop version. The most recent published objectives are labeled 2025 (version 26.x), and earlier outlines exist for 2024, 2022 and 2021. Check which version your booking uses and practice in a matching copy of Photoshop where possible.
The current outline lists six domains. Adobe does not publish percentage weights for them, so be cautious about any site that claims exact weightings. The domains that can be confirmed from the published objectives include:
Working in the Design Industry. Collaborating with colleagues and clients, legal and technical knowledge, and design principles such as space, line, shape, form, color and texture.
Setting up and navigating a document. Tools such as Hand, Rotate View and Zoom, plus rulers, guides, grids and snapping.
Organizing documents with layers and masks. Managing and identifying layers, controlling content visibility, and using adjustment layers and presets.
Adding content to a document. Raster drawing tools and creation features.
The remaining domains cover modifying visual content and preparing work for publishing. Typography settings and export options have appeared in earlier outlines, but confirm the exact domain titles in Adobe’s current exam guide before you build a study plan around them.
Adobe lists two routes. You can take the exam online through Certiport’s OnVUE remote proctoring, which is English only, or you can test in person or online through a Certiport Authorized Testing Center. Many schools and colleges operate as authorized centers, and they sometimes offer discounted or bundled vouchers.
Start by creating a Certiport account, then follow the scheduling flow on Certiport’s site. Voucher prices, system requirements and available languages depend on the route you choose, so rely on Certiport for those details. After you pass, your certificate appears in your Certiport account and Credly invites you to claim a digital badge.
Certiport shows expiration dates on Adobe Certified Professional transcripts, and testing centers report a three year validity period. Adobe’s separate enterprise certification program lists a two year validity, so do not confuse the two. Your Certiport transcript is the authoritative record.
Retakes follow Certiport’s published policy, and each attempt requires its own voucher. Third party summaries of that policy mention a short waiting period after a first failed attempt and a longer one after later attempts. Read the current policy before you book so you plan your timeline correctly.
The credential is aimed at visual design work: social media graphics, marketing assets, photo retouching, web imagery and print preparation. For students and career changers, it is a verifiable way to show that you can complete Photoshop tasks, not only describe them. The Credly badge can be added to a resume or professional profile.
Adobe also awards specialty credentials when a candidate completes two related Professional certifications. Pairing Photoshop with Illustrator or InDesign is a natural next step for anyone building a broader design portfolio. A certification does not replace a portfolio, though, and employers in creative fields still look closely at your actual work.
Because half the exam happens inside Photoshop, the best preparation combines hands on practice with question practice. AllExamQuestions.com is building free practice tests for this exam, which can help you spot weak areas such as masking, adjustment layers or export settings before you pay for a voucher. Check the practice test page for current availability.
