DCCOR is the one Cisco exam that shows up twice on your certification map: pass it once and it counts toward CCNP Data Center, CCIE Data Center written, and several Cisco Specialist tracks at the same time. That dual purpose is also why it's such an unusual study target — a candidate chasing CCIE treats the ACI and automation domains very differently than someone just trying to clear CCNP, even though they're sitting the identical 120-minute exam. Most people underestimate it because "core exam" sounds introductory. It isn't. It assumes you've already touched Nexus switching and UCS hardware in production, not just read about them.
DCCOR is built around six domains, and Cisco weights them unevenly on purpose — Network and Compute alone make up nearly half the question pool:
Network (~25%) — vPC, FabricPath, and Spanning Tree behavior in the data center; VXLAN EVPN and OTV as overlay technologies; BGP and OSPF as they apply to DC fabrics; ACI fabric concepts including tenants, VRFs, bridge domains, EPGs, and contracts; multicast and unicast packet flow analysis.
Compute (~20%) — Cisco UCS Manager policy hierarchy, service profiles, fabric interconnects, vNIC/vHBA templates, blade versus rack server implementation, and integration with ESXi and Hyper-V hypervisors.
Storage Network (~15%) — Fibre Channel zoning and VSANs, N-port virtualization, FCoE and FIP snooping, DCB/CEE, and iSCSI basics. This is the domain candidates coming from a pure routing/switching background usually underestimate.
Automation (~15%) — Python scripting against NX-API and the ACI REST API, Ansible playbooks for DC configuration push, and DCNM/Nexus Dashboard programmability. Cisco has been pushing this weight upward with each blueprint revision.
Security (~15%) — ACI contract-based microsegmentation, RBAC across UCS and NX-OS, Cisco Secure Workload (formerly Tetration) fundamentals, and compliance considerations specific to multi-tenant data centers.
Management (~10%) — network configuration management, software upgrade impact analysis, NetFlow/SPAN-based monitoring, and streaming telemetry concepts.
Notice what's missing from that list: there's no dedicated "wireless" or "enterprise campus" domain here. Everything is scoped to the data center, which means questions assume fabric-level thinking, not branch or campus network logic.
The typical candidate isn't a networking generalist — it's someone already running Nexus switches or UCS blades in a live data center and formalizing that experience. You'll see three distinct groups: data center engineers moving from CCNA/CCNP Enterprise into a DC-specialist role, systems/virtualization admins who manage UCS and want the networking-adjacent credential to match, and CCIE Data Center candidates who need DCCOR as their qualifying written exam before the lab. That last group studies the ACI policy model and automation domains far more intensely than a first-time CCNP candidate typically does, because the CCIE lab assumes fluency there.
The official 350-601 DCCOR exam runs 120 minutes and mixes straightforward multiple-choice items with scenario-based questions that describe a live fault or design problem and ask you to identify the correct remediation. There are no full hands-on lab simulations on DCCOR itself (those live in the CCIE lab exam), but the scenario questions are written to feel like troubleshooting tickets — a VPC peer-link flapping, an EPG not communicating across a contract, a UCS service profile failing to associate — so memorizing command syntax without understanding the underlying policy model will only get you partway. Cisco does not publish the exact passing score; it uses a scaled score, and candidates commonly report the practical cutoff sitting in the 750–825 range out of 1000, though Cisco treats the precise number as confidential and it can shift between exam item pools.
Don't run through these questions in exam order and call it done. Split your attempts by domain first — do a Network-only pass, then Compute-only, then Storage — because DCCOR mixes domains freely in the exam, and if you get a question wrong you want to know immediately whether it's a VXLAN gap or a UCS gap, not just "networking in general." Once you're consistently above 80% domain-by-domain, switch to full-length timed runs that mix everything, because the skill DCCOR tests in its scenario questions is fast context-switching between an ACI policy question and a Fibre Channel zoning question back to back.
Treating ACI as an afterthought. Candidates who learned NX-OS first often under-study the ACI policy model (tenant → VRF → bridge domain → EPG → contract) and get caught by questions that test contract scope and filter direction specifically.
Skipping Fibre Channel because "everything is FCoE now." Storage Network questions still test classic FC zoning and VSAN trunking concepts directly, not just the FCoE convergence layer on top of it.
Underestimating the automation domain's weight. Candidates from a hardware-heavy background sometimes assume Python/Ansible questions will be light. They aren't — this domain has grown with each blueprint revision and Cisco tests actual NX-API/REST API behavior, not just "what is Ansible."
Confusing UCS Manager policy inheritance with Intersight's model. The exam still leans heavily on classic UCS Manager service profile and template hierarchy, and candidates who've only worked in Intersight-managed environments get tripped up by the older policy structure.
Build a lab (physical UCS/Nexus gear, dCloud, or a virtual pod) around one specific workflow: stand up a vPC pair, layer a VXLAN EVPN overlay on top, then attach a UCS service profile to it and push a config change through Ansible. That single end-to-end exercise touches four of the six domains and mirrors how DCCOR actually blends topics in its scenario questions, rather than testing each domain as an island. When you review ACI, don't just memorize the object hierarchy — trace what happens to traffic when a contract is misconfigured in one direction only, since that's a recurring question pattern.
Work through the domain-tagged question sets below, starting with whichever domain felt least familiar as you read the breakdown above. Once you're clearing 85%+ on mixed, timed runs, you're testing readiness rather than knowledge gaps — which is the point at which booking the actual exam date starts to make sense.
